2025 Greektown Christmas Tree Lighting

Kick off the holiday season with Greektown’s 10th annual tree lighting on Sunday, November 23rd at Elysian Field (corner of Halsted and Van Buren).

Bring the whole family for a special meet & greet event with Santa & Holiday Friends from 4:00-4:45 pm at Elysian Field, where kids can share their wishes, snap festive photos, all before Santa’s 5 pm countdown to light the Christmas tree.

Students from Chicagoland Greek schools will then sing traditional Greek Christmas kalanda along with live music. After the program, hot cocoa and loukoumades will be served under the tents.  Limited free parking is available from 3:30–6:30 p.m. in the IDOT lot adjacent to Giordano’s parking lot. The entrance gate is located next to the Rice Building at 405 S. Green Street. An attendant will be on duty from 3:30–6:30 p.m. sharp. From this lot, you can easily cross the street at Halsted and Van Buren to reach the festivities.

In addition to the festive blue and white lights (the colors of the Greek flag) along Halsted Street, the neighborhood’s traditional Greek holiday karavákia display of vibrant, illuminated boats are on view throughout Greektown businesses November 23rd through January 6th.
