56th Chicago International Film Festival

This year marks the 56th Chicago International Film Festival, and the festivities will be taking place virtually with over 100 films streaming across the US. The event combines streaming on-demand, appointment screenings and an in-person drive-in theatre experience, along with virtual filmmaker Q&As and a completely online Industry Days. The events kick off on Wednesday, October 14, and you can learn more by downloading the Festival Guide linked here.

Below you will find the Greek films participating in the festival this year. We hope you’re able to tune in and enjoy!

  • Apples: In this chimerical, brooding feature debut, a mysterious pandemic rages across the globe causing sudden amnesia in the infected. When solitary Aris is afflicted, he finds himself enrolled in an experimental rehabilitation program. His treatment: performing prescribed tasks mimicking life’s milestone moments and capturing these new memories with a Polaroid camera. Just as Aris is finding his footing, an encounter with a woman undergoing the same therapy sets him on a different path. Through images deadpan, strange, and surreal, Yorgos Lanthimos collaborator Christos Nikou posits a beguiling reflection on memory, identity, nostalgia, and loss. Available to stream October 14 – 25. Purchase your virtual tickets here and attend the livestream Q&A with the Director, Christos Nikou, on October 17 at 4:00pm CST.
  • Bella (Short Film) : A striking and emotional short film that blends fiction and documentary while chronicling a woman and world in flux at the end of the Cold War. The film is available virtually as part of Shorts 5: The Life of the Mind (Drama) Series on Wednesday, October 14 at 8:00pm CST.
  • The End of Suffering (Short Film): Sofia’s anxiety attack becomes an intergalactic dialogue with the universe in this short film. This film is available virtually as part of Shorts 8: Realms Unknown (Experimental) Series on Wednesday, October 14 at 8:00pm CST.
