200th anniversary of Greek Independence Day

Celebrate with Greektown throughout March!

This year is the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence against the Ottomans in 1821, which eventually led to the formation of the modern Greek state.

In past years, thousands of people would gather in Chicago’s Greektown for the annual parade on Greek Independence Day, March 25. The COVID-19 pandemic may have canceled our parade… but it hasn’t dimmed our spirits!

Greektown is planning a monthlong commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Greek independence next month, kicking off with our new Greektown Restaurant Week, March 1-7, 2021. The event will feature exclusive discounts and dishes from your favorite restaurants throughout the neighborhood, valid for carry-out, delivery and dine-in.

Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks as we celebrate our Greek heritage. Opa!
