Watch our special Greek Independence Day event

Greektown Chicago’s spectacular virtual event celebrating the 200th anniversary of Greek independence is now on our YouTube channel here. We hope you’ll check it out!

Nearly 12,000 people tuned in for the live virtual premiere of our event March 25, which features stories and Greek Independence Day memories from prominent Greek Americans including Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas, WGN TV’s Dean Richards, WGN Radio’s Anna Davlantes, Chicago Magazine’s Susanna Homan and WBEZ Radio’s Dan Mihalopoulos, among many others.

Our event culminated with a performance from The Voice of Greece, Glykeria, who performed an original rendition of the iconic Greek parade song “Na’tane To 21” (Let It Be 1821), accompanied by a photo and video montage. The song commemorates the start of the Greeks’ fight for independence in March 1821.
