Join us in Greektown during Open House Chicago 2024
The National Hellenic Museum (NHM) is proud to be an official partner site during this year’s Open House Chicago with the Chicago Architecture Center! The museum is offering free museum admission to all visitors on October 19 & 20 during this citywide architecture festival. NHM is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on both dates. Admission includes educational activities for allages, access to all current exhibitions, and complementary tours with trained NHM docents at the top of each hour throughout the weekend. On-site educational activities during Open House Chicago
In the museum’s classroom studio, children and adults can participate in fun, relevant and hands-on activities that connect ancient Greek culture to our present time. Reimagine city skylines using architectural forms found in modern and ancient Greek structures, or create shields inspired by symbols from Greek mythology, classical motifs and contemporary inspirations!
During Open House Chicago, visitors will have access to NHM’s core exhibition Reaching for the American Dream:
The Greek Story in America as well as current exhibitions Gather Together: Chicago Street Photography by Diane Alexander White and Legacy, Renewal & Unity: Celebrating 100 Years of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and Archons of the EcumenicalPatriarchate: Protecting the Future of Faith.
The annual Open House Chicago festival is one of the largest events of its kind in the world, offering Chicagoans and visitors the chance to go behind the scenes at more than 170 of the city’sarchitecturally, culturally and historically significant sites.
