Greektown’s Annual Christmas Tree Celebration Sunday, November 22nd, 3:30-5 p.m.

The Greektown Tree Lighting ceremony will be held the weekend before Thanksgiving, on Sunday, November 22 at 5 p.m. at Elysian Field (southeast corner of Halsted & Van Buren Streets).

The holiday magic begins with Santa and friends strolling at Elysian Field from 3:30 p.m. onward for festive photo opps, and will help with the tree lighting countdown at 5 p.m. As the tree is lit in bright white and blue, representing the colors of the Greek flag, young students from Chicagoland Greek schools will sing traditional Greek Christmas carols (kalanta). The tree is decorated with karavákia ornaments, small boats created by artist Panos Fiorentios. Complimentary hot chocolate and loukoumades will be served after the Christmas caroling on a first come, first served basis.

Free and open to the public, the Greektown Tree Lighting event is sponsored by Greektown SSA #16 with additional support from 34th Ward Alderman Bill Conway, the Greektown Chamber of Commerce, and the Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation.
