Chicago celebrates 200 years of Greek independence

In Greektown and across Chicago last month, buildings were decorated in blue and white—the colors of the Greek flag—to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence Day. Can you spot our festive Greektown monuments in this video from the Greek Consulate in Chicago?

The bicentennial was also commemorated by public officials in the city and beyond, from Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker to President Joseph R. Biden Jr, who issued a Presidential Proclamation in support of the Greek American community and Greece’s influence on the development of modern democracy.
