Greek Easter Traditions

The brightest symbol of the Easter season in Greece is red eggs. The process of dyeing the eggs is part of many families’ Easter holiday tradition. The eggs are baked into a traditional Easter bread called tsoureki, used as decoration, and are part of a customary game known as tsougrisma. If you’re looking to dye your own eggs at home this year using natural ingredients, consider following this tutorial, courtesy of The Spruce Eats.

We also wanted to introduce you to Chicago resident Katerina Mallios, who created Follow Apollo, aimed at teaching children about Greek history, traditions and customs in fun and engaging ways. The first book and plush toy is centered around Greek Easter and is available for purchase here. Stay tuned for upcoming themes that share even more aspects of the Greek culture and history that will be introduced in future books.
