Greektown Chicago security update
Greektown Chicago security update
November 2021
We are in communication with 27th Ward Alderman Walter Burnett, Jr. and the Chicago Police Department’s 12th District leadership to address the recent crimes, as well as the concerns of businesses throughout the neighborhood. We would like the Chicago Police Department to resume more regular beat patrols in Greektown, and we have been in discussion with them about this matter.
We are committed to ensuring Greektown remains one of the safest neighborhoods in Chicago. Greektown SSA #16 recently approved additional funding to extend the hours of our private security foot patrols throughout Greektown to 12 hours per day, seven days per week. We have contracted a private security company for Greektown patrols since 2018.
We offer ongoing security grants to Greektown property owners and tenants who install or upgrade security camera systems or exterior lighting and have added a special rebate for the installation of alarm systems. In recent years we’ve also installed new and enhanced street lighting throughout the neighborhood.
We will continue to work with local law enforcement on crime prevention strategies. If you would like to get involved in our local 12th District CAPS meetings with the Chicago Police Department, the next meeting will be held via Zoom on December 22 at 6 p.m. Central Time.
