A Note from the SSA #16

Ever wonder who’s making sure things are running smoothly in Greektown? The SSA #16’s key role is to work together to ensure that the neighborhood is safe and clean, while working with Greektown’s merchants to offer locals and incoming tourists the best events and offerings possible. With a primary focus on heritage and detail, members of SSA #16 coordinate all holiday decorations, public art installations, special events and guarantee that the monuments special to Greektown are preserved correctly. SSA #16 has worked hard to put Greektown on the map as one of the country’s most culturally-rich neighborhoods and are always continuing to think outside of the box to offer locals something unique and exciting!

The SSA #16 would additionally like to note that the Monroe Street bridge (between Halsted and Des Plaines Avenue) will be closed due to construction and the ongoing Jane Byrne Interchange project. A posted detour will provide alternate routes for drivers, and pedestrians are encouraged to use the Madison Street bridge. The new structure is expected to open in summer 2019, and will have two lanes in each direction and sidewalks on the sides of both bridges. The reconstruction project at the Jane Byrne Interchange will improve safety and traffic flow for the more than 400,000 motorists who use it each day, while also enhancing mobility for bicyclists, pedestrians and transit users in the surrounding neighborhoods. The SSA #16 apologizes for any inconveniences and will provide additional construction updates as they’re confirmed.
