The Festival of the Summer: Taste of Greektown Recap

This past weekend, Halsted Street exuded Hellenic Pride during the 30th annual Taste of Greektown! Visitors from near and far gathered to the lively epicenter to celebrate Hellenic culture sampling traditional Greek dishes from restaurants along Halsted Street while enjoying live music and entertainment.

The neighborhood is full of critically acclaimed Greek restaurants, attracting thousands to the Taste of Greektown to try them all! This year, visitors were transported to the Mediterranean while tasting popular food and drink from Artopolis, Athena Restaurant, Mr. Greek Gyros, and Santorini. There was no shortage of gyros, seafood, lamb chops, pita bread and tzatziki at the festival! Other Greektown staples included popular bites and spirits from 9 Muses Bar & Grill, The Ambassador Public House and Spectrum Bar & Grill

Visitors were drawn to the Quincy stage off Halsted Street by the gyro eating contest cheering section, live Greek music and energetic performances from Greek dance troupes. There they found popular performances by beloved cover band Sixteen Candles, Dave Matthews Band cover band Trippin’ Billies and live DJs throughout the weekend. Special thanks to all of the visitors, volunteers, restaurant participants and performers who made the 30th annual Taste of Greektown our best one yet… until next summer!
