Welcome spring with a Marti bracelet
Learn how to make this red & white bracelet worn since ancient times.
The “Marti bracelet” or “Marti” is an ancient Greek custom for the beginning of spring. Its name is derived from the Greek word for the month of March: Μάρτιος (Martios).
Beginning on March 1, it is a tradition for adults and children in Greece to wear a bracelet made of twisted red and white thread. The white symbolizes purity, and the red color stands for life and passion. In ancient times, people believed that the bracelet helped protect the person wearing it from diseases as well as the strong rays of the sun in the month of March.
